Validation Report
This large Thai bronze Buddha statue (70 cm, 29.4 kg) was evaluated as a solid-cast historic temple image from the late 18th–19th century. The mass, casting structure and naturally layered patina correspond fully with traditional pre-industrial Thai bronze workshop practice. The surface shows stable, long-term oxidation and natural devotional wear, with no indications of modern artificial ageing or later interventions. Given the scale, weight and construction, further UV or microscopic testing is not required; the authenticity is inherent in the material and workmanship.

Large Thai Bronze Buddha Statue – 18th–19th Century
Description
This imposing Thai bronze Buddha belongs to the small group of large-format temple sculptures created in the late 18th to early 19th century. At 70 cm in height and nearly 30 kg in weight, the statue was cast as a fully solid bronze work — a process that required significant material investment and a highly skilled workshop. Only important temple commissions justified bronzes of this scale and mass.
The image displays the mature classical Thai aesthetic: a serene, softly elongated facial profile, finely balanced proportions, and a robe line that flows with the calm precision characteristic of late Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin ateliers. The patina is deep, stable and layered, showing slow natural oxidation that only forms over many decades of devotional use and exposure. This is not the artificial surface of later decorative castings; the metal shows age that is inherent, structural, and unmistakable.
The statue’s weight and casting quality make additional UV or microscopic testing unnecessary — the authenticity is inherent in the construction itself. Large, solid-cast Thai bronzes with undisturbed historical surfaces are now uncommon, with most surviving examples held in temples or long-term private collections. Examples on the market in this size and condition are increasingly scarce.
This is a work of presence and authority, created for ritual settings and intended to command space. It represents the craftsmanship, devotion and artistic clarity that define Thailand’s finest bronze traditions.
A significant historic sculpture suited to both advanced collections and interior spaces seeking an authentic, spiritually grounded centrepiece.
