Validation Report
This 19th-century Thai Rattanakosin Buddha statue was examined using microscopy, UV review and interior cavity inspection. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze and carries an original 24k fire-gilded surface. The gilding shows characteristic mercury-gilding behaviour, including deep gold penetration into the bronze and cuprit–tenorite underlayers formed through long-term natural ageing.
The internal cavity shows pre-industrial casting texture, multi-layer mineralisation and natural oxidation without signs of modern filler, synthetic coatings or reconstruction. The surface presents historic wear patterns typical of temple bronzes from the Bangkok Rattanakosin tradition. The stylistic features including the ushnisha flame, hair curls, facial modelling and the Bhumisparsha gesture correspond to mid- to late-19th-century Thai production.

Thai Rattanakosin 24k Fire-Gilded Bronze Buddha Statue (19th Century)
Description
This 19th-century Thai Rattanakosin Buddha is a substantial and beautifully preserved example of Bangkok-period craftsmanship. Cast in solid bronze and finished with 24k fire-gilding, the statue retains its original gold surface, visible under microscopy as genuine mercury gilding.
The figure is modelled in Bhumisparsha Mudra, with elegant proportions, a sharply rising ushnisha flame, finely detailed hair curls and a double-layer lotus pedestal. The surface shows natural cuprit–tenorite patina, age-consistent wear and traces of the original red lacquer underlayer.
The underside exhibits authentic multi-layer corrosion, mineralisation and historical internal casting structure, consistent with 19th-century Thai temple bronzes. No modern repairs or repainting are present.
