Description
Old Thai Bronze Buddha Statue – 19th/20th Century
This old Thai bronze Buddha statue depicts Shakyamuni seated in the Bhumisparsha mudra, or earth-touching gesture. With his right hand extended toward the ground and left hand resting in meditation, the figure represents the moment of enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
The statue shows the stylistic features of Thai Buddhist art, including the flame-like ushnisha (cranial finial), sharp shoulder lines, and seated lotus base. Its natural patina, with areas of green verdigris oxidation, reflects both age and authenticity.
