A finely cast bronze Buddha head from the late post-Angkor to early Ayutthaya period (ca. 17th–18th century). Khmer “flame-style” hair, calm facial planes, and residual 24 kt fire gilding. Examined with UV and microscopy; authentic historical casting.

Overview

This head stands in the Khmer tradition as continued in mainland Southeast Asia during the 17th–18th centuries. The long vertical hair strands below a high band and the restrained, serene visage align with post-Angkor / early Ayutthaya aesthetics.

Material & Technique

  • Material: bronze (copper alloy) with remains of original 24 kt fire gilding.
  • Technique: traditional cire perdue (lost-wax) sand casting; granular interior with clay inclusions.
  • Patina: deep brown with natural cuprite/malachite oxidation; protective historic wax layer in places.
  • UV/Microscopy: blue-green fluorescence inside from aged copper carbonates; no modern fillers or machining.
