Antique Thai Fire-Gilded Bronze Buddha Head – Ayutthaya Period (18th Century)

In stock

Description

This finely cast Buddha head is executed in bronze with surviving traces of original fire-gilding. The modelling of the face is calm and restrained, with gently arched brows, elongated eyes and a subtle, meditative expression characteristic of Thai devotional sculpture. The elongated ears and compact cranial proportions are consistent with late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin traditions.

The hair is rendered with dense, individually modelled spiral curls, showing natural irregularity rather than mechanical repetition. Microscopic examination confirms original mercury fire-gilding, preserved primarily in recessed areas and along sculptural edges, with wear consistent with prolonged ritual handling and age.

The surface exhibits a layered natural patina with areas of oxidation, abrasion and mineral accretion, entirely consistent with long-term use and exposure. No evidence of modern casting, artificial patination or recent gilding is observed.
