24K Fire-Gilded Bronze Buddha – Tibet, 17th–18th Century (40 cm, 5.8 kg)
Description
This magnificent Tibetan Buddha is a solid bronze image, fully fire-gilded with 24 kt gold applied by traditional mercury-amalgam technique.
The figure sits in Bhumisparsha mudra upon a double-lotus base, displaying calm proportions and classical Tibetan features from the late 17th to early 18th century.
Microscopic inspection reveals the fine-grained crystalline texture of genuine amalgam gold, oxidation layers of copper carbonate and salt efflorescence, and deep casting pores from traditional sand-mould construction.
UV-light confirms the absence of modern lacquer or restoration, and gilding remains intact across the surface, extending even to the internal edges.
A rare and authentic example of high-purity 24 kt gilded bronze from the Himalayan tradition, preserved with natural patina and internal oxidation consistent with centuries of age.
