Description

Ming-Style Gilt Bronze Buddha – China, ca. 1930–1950

This refined seated Buddha statue, cast in bronze and finished with genuine fire-gilding, was made in China around 1930–1950. Inspired by the renowned Ming dynasty Yongle bronzes, it features a serene expression, finely engraved robe borders, and balanced proportions in the Bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture). The inscription on the back — “Made in the Yongle period of the Great Ming” — is a traditional homage. UV inspection confirms the presence of original fire-gilding, embedded micro-oxidation, and cracked lacquer layers, all consistent with natural aging. The statue is not a modern replica but a genuine mid-20th-century devotional object with lasting aesthetic and spiritual presence.
