Description

This bronze seated Buddha represents the refined craftsmanship of late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin Thailand. Cast in solid bronze and seated in bhumisparsha mudra, the figure displays the characteristic high tiered crown, elongated earlobes, and finely detailed ornamental borders associated with early nineteenth-century Thai workshops. The proportions are balanced and the lotus base is executed in the rounded Ayutthaya–Rattanakosin style.

Microscopic examination shows a natural, multi-layered patina with cupri-carbonates, mineralised deposits and small remaining areas of old fire-gilding preserved in protected zones. The surface shows no traces of modern coatings, chemical patination, or recent repainting. UV analysis confirms the authenticity of the aged metal surface, revealing crystalline oxidation patterns consistent with pre-modern Thai bronzes.

The underside retains its original traditional Thai fill material, now compacted and dry with natural ageing fissures. The internal metal rim shows the typical irregularities of historic bronze casting rather than modern mould-based production. All visible structural and surface features are consistent with early nineteenth-century manufacture.

Estimated age based on technical, stylistic and material evidence: ca. 1800–1850.
