Description
Rare Thai Bronze Buddha – Ayutthaya Period (16th–17th Century)
This serene and rare Buddha statue originates from Thailand’s historic Ayutthaya Kingdom (c. 1500–1600s). Standing 39.4 cm high and weighing 6.4 kg, the figure is cast in bronze using the traditional lost-wax technique and is fully hollow, with clear signs of age, oxidized patina, and interior ritual residue—hallmarks of authentic spiritual use.
Pose & Symbolism
The Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (earth-touching gesture), a powerful symbol of the moment the historical Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. This mudra, where the right hand reaches toward the ground, represents the subjugation of worldly illusions and the calling of the Earth as witness to spiritual awakening.
- For the spirit: Symbolizes enlightenment, inner stability, and triumph over temptation
- Against spiritual delusion: This pose repels negative energies and affirms spiritual clarity

- Classic overlapping lotus pedestal, subtly asymmetrical — a known feature in authentic Ayutthaya bronzes
- Detailed robe draping over the left shoulder, leaving the right bare in accordance with monastic tradition
- Natural green, red, and white patina, with signs of aged crystallization and salt efflorescence
- Completely untouched surface: no restorations, no polishing, no modern interference
