Antique Bronze Thai Shan Buddha Statue – Fire-Gilded, ca. 1850–1900

In stock

Description

This solid bronze seated Buddha statue originates from Northern Thailand or the Shan State in Burma and dates to approximately 1850–1900, possibly even the late 18th century. Cast using the traditional sand-casting method, the surface reveals typical casting pits and oxidation patterns that confirm its age and authenticity. Traces of original fire gilding remain visible in protected areas, especially around the robe and facial contours.

The Buddha is depicted in a peaceful meditation pose, with soft facial features and simplified robe detailing. The absence of a flame finial atop the ushnisha suggests a monastic or regional variant in style, aligning with older Northern Thai or Burmese traditions.

This piece is not only a devotional image but also a testament to Southeast Asian craftsmanship and Buddhist heritage. With a serene presence and powerful symbolism, it offers both spiritual significance and collectible value.
