Bronze Seated Buddha – Thailand – ca. 1800–1850
Description
Bronze Seated Buddha – Thailand – ca. 1800–1850
This authentic bronze Buddha statue was created in Thailand between 1800 and 1850, during the late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin period. The Buddha is shown in the bhumisparsha mudra, or earth-touching gesture, which represents the moment of enlightenment.
Cast using the traditional lost-wax technique, the statue is hollow inside, with a fully sealed base. The surface shows natural oxidation, a matte patina, and subtle irregularities — hallmarks of age and handcrafted production.
Internal acoustic testing revealed a loose internal fragment, likely part of the original clay casting core. This is typical of traditional Thai casting techniques where interior fillers were used during production. UV inspection confirms the absence of modern restoration or synthetic materials.
