Description

This beautiful bronze Buddha statue originates from Thailand, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1850–1900). Cast using traditional methods and weighing approximately 1.4 kg, the figure stands 20.5 cm high and 16.5 cm wide, seated on a lotus throne with ritual inscriptions on the front.

The Buddha is shown in the Bhumisparsha mudra (Earth-Touching Gesture), with the right hand reaching toward the ground. This iconic pose symbolizes the moment of enlightenment, when Siddhartha Gautama called upon the Earth goddess to witness his victory over the forces of illusion (Mara). The left hand rests in his lap in meditation.

This posture signifies:

  • For: spiritual grounding, enlightenment, courage, and focus

  • Against: evil spirits, illusion, and internal conflict

  • Used for: altar placement, protective presence in homes, meditation enhancement

Spiritual Function:

Bhumisparsha statues like this are commonly placed on personal or temple altars to invoke inner strength and protection. The deeply worn surface and presence of oxidized ritual filling on the underside confirm authentic ritual use — not a modern tourist replica.

Technical Details:

  • Traditional sand casting with natural patina

  • No signs of machine tooling or synthetic additions

  • Original relic or ash-filling present (sealed base)

  • Hand-inscribed front panel with traditional Thai motifs

  • Aged surface with copper-green oxidation confirming authenticity

This piece is a rare and spiritually charged addition to any Buddhist art collection, particularly valuable for those interested in authentic devotional bronzes from Southeast Asia.
