Thai Bronze Buddha – Rattanakosin Style Bhumisparsha Mudra 55.5 cm 15.5 kg
Description
Thai Bronze Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra — Rattanakosin Style, 19th–early 20th Century
Finely cast bronze image of the Buddha seated in Bhumisparsha Mudra (earth-touching gesture), the right hand calling the earth to witness enlightenment while the left rests in meditation on the lap. The figure sits in full vajrāsana upon a rounded, beaded lotus cushion mounted on a faceted base. The high flame finial, arched brows, tight spiral hair curls and the single robe fold crossing the chest are characteristic of Rattanakosin court style.
This piece is closely related in size, weight, and style to another Thai bronze Buddha in our collection (see here). Both statues share the same refined casting technique, lotus base design, and serene facial expression, making them ideal as a matching pair or for comparative study.
Dating & Origin
Thailand, Rattanakosin style. The combination of the flame finial, the beaded lotus ring with pointed petal cartouches, and the smooth, idealized torso supports a date in the 19th to early 20th century (stylistic assessment).
Material & Technique
Lost-wax cast bronze with an even dark brown patina. The underside is closed with an old, soldered metal plate consistent with traditional Thai workshop practice. Minor casting seams and tool marks are visible in places, typical for hand finishing.
Condition
Overall very good, with age-consistent wear and small surface marks from handling and ritual use. No obvious modern repairs are observed in hand inspection. Natural patina preserved.
Dimensions
- Height: 55.5 cm
