This Nepalese Avalokiteshvara duo was examined using museum-grade analytical methods, including UV-based surface review and microscopic inspection of patina layers, casting texture and interior oxidation. Both bronzes show natural multi-layer mineralisation, stable cuprite and dark corrosion compounds, and original lost-wax casting structures without signs of modern tooling or restoration. Nepalese Avalokiteshvara Duo – Padmapani and Lokeshvara (19th Century Bronze Set)
Description
This duo represents two classical forms of Avalokiteshvara from the Kathmandu Valley. Both sculptures were cast using traditional lost-wax techniques and show natural, multi-layered patina that developed over more than a century. Padmapani holds the lotus stem, while Lokeshvara presents the gesture of offering and compassion.
The surfaces show genuine age behaviour, mineral deposits and original casting texture without signs of modern restoration. Their proportions, crowns, base design and facial modelling correspond to late-18th to 19th-century Nepalese workshop production. Presented together, they form a coherent devotional set from the Himalayan Buddhist tradition.
