Description

A large and finely carved Mandalay Buddha from Myanmar, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Carved from solid wood with the traditional build-up of white gesso, red bolus and original gold leaf. The sculpture sits in bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment. The surface retains its original gilding and glass inlays, with natural age cracks and patina consistent with historic temple use.

The broad head and detailed hair curls are characteristic of high-quality Mandalay craftsmanship. The sculpture displays strong presence and balanced proportions, making it a compelling and authentic devotional icon from Upper Myanmar.
