Description

This finely cast bronze Buddha originates from the Lanna–Lan Xang region, dating to approximately 1700–1750. The figure sits in bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment.

Under magnification, the surface reveals the distinct fine-grained crystalline texture typical of 24 kt gold leaf applied by traditional mercury amalgam technique. The gilding exhibits subtle red lacquer remains underneath, while natural oxidation and mineral inclusions confirm age and authenticity.

The casting is sand-based, with a dense internal core and traces of green and black corrosion products — a signature of early Southeast Asian bronzes. No modern restoration or repainting is observed.

This is a genuine 18th-century example of Buddhist art from the Lanna–Lan Xang sphere, combining technical refinement with serene presence.
