This Japanese bronze incense burner is a well made example of late Edo to early Meiji period metalwork. The hexagonal body is constructed from individual pierced panels mounted within a solid bronze frame. Each panel is decorated with stylised cloud and floral motifs, allowing incense smoke to circulate freely during use.

The upper section is crowned with a lotus petal rim, a key Buddhist symbol representing purity and enlightenment. The domed lid retains its original hanging ring, indicating the burner could be carried or suspended within a ritual setting.

The incense burner stands on six sculptural feet, which elevate the body and protect the surface beneath from heat. The construction is clearly pre industrial, with hand fitted components, riveted connections and no signs of modern machining.

The surface displays a natural matte bronze patina with subtle colour variation and wear consistent with age, heat exposure and long term use. One original structural connector inside the frame is missing, causing slight movement in part of the construction. This does not affect stability when displayed, but lifting the object by the ring is not advised. No modern repairs or recent alterations are visible.

The object is offered in untouched condition, with the noted condition fully reflected in the price.
