Validation Report
This solid bronze Japanese Buddha (H 7.5 × W 7 cm, 700 g) was examined using microscopy, surface analysis and comparative study of Edo-period casting traditions. The sculpture displays deep, naturally formed devotional wear on the head, face, robe folds and edges—patterns consistent with several centuries of handling. The surface patina, oxidation behaviour and softened high points confirm long-term natural ageing, not mechanical polishing. The casting is fully solid, characteristic of early Japanese workshop production (16th–17th century). The underside bears a faded historical mark interpreted as an early workshop or temple stamp, heavily eroded over time.
