Description

This exceptional 18th-century Thai Buddha statue stands at an impressive 91 cm in height and weighs 36 kg, making it a true temple-quality piece. Crafted using traditional segmental casting methods, the figure retains remnants of its original fire-gilding, now visible as yellow-green fluorescence under UV light and confirmed by microscopic gold traces.

The Buddha is shown in deep meditation, with a subtle yet powerful gaze, elongated flame-shaped ushnisha, and gently folded hands resting in his lap. His robe features elegant floral patterns with beadwork edging—meticulously applied by hand, without modern symmetry or casting shortcuts.

Originating from Thailand and dated between 1750 and 1800, this statue reflects the stylistic transition from the Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin periods. It was likely used in monastic or ceremonial contexts, as evidenced by its open eyes and restrained ornamentation.

Spiritual significance:

The meditative posture represents inner peace, spiritual awakening, and protection from internal unrest. Used to attract calm energy and balance, such figures are revered for their symbolic protection against inner demons and worldly suffering.

Authenticity indicators include:

  • Natural patina with green malachite and white salt deposits

  • Traditional filler of sand, clay, and plant fibers

  • No modern repairs or coatings

Dimensions:

Height: 91 cm

Width: 60 cm

Weight: 36 kg

This museum-worthy bronze Buddha is ideal for serious collectors, spiritual spaces, or high-end interior design. It is a rare example of pre-modern Thai craftsmanship and spiritual artistry.
