Description

Thai Standing Ganesha Statue – Brass, 20th Century

This solid brass statue of Ganesha – the elephant-headed remover of obstacles – comes from Thailand and dates to the late 20th century. It presents Ganesha in a dynamic standing posture, adorned with a tall tiered crown and richly detailed armor and ornaments.

The figure holds traditional ritual weapons including an axe and a broken tusk, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and the power to overcome challenges. The octagonal pedestal base is decorated in classic Thai Rattanakosin style, reflecting Southeast Asian temple iconography.

Despite its aged appearance, this statue is a modern devotional replica, likely produced between 1980 and 2000. It was cast using a mold technique and then finished with hand tooling to enhance surface detail. The surface shows natural oxidation and mild wear consistent with age and devotional use.
