Thai Buddha Gilded Bronze – Rattanakosin Period
Description
This rare and sacred gilded bronze Buddha statue was crafted in Thailand during the Rattanakosin period, estimated between 1750–1850 CE. Made using traditional bronze casting and gilding techniques, this figure stands 16.5 cm tall, 9.5 cm wide, and weighs 400 grams.
The Buddha is depicted in the Maravijaya mudra (earth-touching gesture), symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the Earth to witness his triumph over illusion (Mara). This is one of the most iconic and spiritually powerful postures in Southeast Asian Buddhism.
