Description

Small Bronze Dancing Shiva – India, ca. 1970–1990

This expressive bronze statue depicts Shiva Nataraja, the cosmic dancer, captured in mid-movement with one leg lifted in the classic Tandava pose. Cast in solid bronze or brass alloy, the figure rests on a square tiered pedestal and features traditional South Indian iconographic traits: an elongated headdress, defined torso, and stylized limbs.

Measuring approximately 13.1 cm in height and weighing 300 grams, this sculpture was made in India between 1970 and 1990, likely for devotional or decorative use. The casting method and simplified detail suggest small-scale artisan production intended for household altars or spiritual interiors.

While not an antique, the statue carries a timeless aesthetic and remains a faithful homage to classical Chola-style depictions of Shiva. The base is hollow and unsealed, consistent with modern open-mold techniques. No signs of artificial aging or modern coating are present.
