Description

Set of Three Chinese Bronze Figures – Late 18th to 19th Century

This exceptional set of three Chinese bronze figures dates from the late 18th to 19th century and represents a likely Daoist or courtly trio. The group includes two male scholar or attendant types, and one female figure standing on a symbolic base.

The figures are hollow-cast in traditional sand-mould technique and show natural patination, greenish oxidation, and residual mineral inclusions. One figure contains a mortar-like internal filler, indicating a later intervention or stabilization during the early 20th century. Under UV light, the figures show a green-yellow fluorescence typical of aged copper alloys with trace gilding.

These figures likely originate from southern China and were originally used in a decorative, temple-related, or symbolic household context. Their size (41–44 cm) and combined weight (14.6 kg) give them strong presence and rarity as a complete group.
