Antique Bronze Buddha Shakyamuni Statue Nepal Earth-Touching Mudra

This bronze Buddha statue represents Shakyamuni Buddha seated in meditation with the right hand reaching down in the traditional Bhumisparsha Mudra, also known as the earth-touching gesture. This symbolic moment refers to the moment of enlightenment, when the Buddha called the earth to witness his awakening.

The figure sits in a stable meditation posture on a finely shaped lotus base. The lotus throne symbolizes purity and spiritual awakening, rising above the earthly world. The calm facial expression, elongated earlobes and stylized hair curls reflect classical Himalayan Buddhist iconography.

This piece was traditionally cast in bronze using the lost-wax technique and shows the characteristic hand-finished surface typical for Nepalese workshop production from the second half of the 20th century. Subtle tool marks and the warm bronze patina reveal the manual finishing after casting, giving the statue a natural and authentic appearance.
