Lakshmi Statue – South India (Tamil Nadu)
Description
This rare bronze statue of the goddess Lakshmi originates from South India (Tamil Nadu) and dates to approximately 1950. It was cast using the traditional lost-wax method (cire perdue), and under UV light, residual traces of original 24k fire gilding remain clearly visible.
Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, beauty, and spiritual prosperity. She is depicted here standing upright with four arms, a sign of her divine status. Her raised hands display the mudras of protection (abhaya) and blessing (varada), while her upper hands traditionally carry symbols of purity and spiritual abundance.
The statue measures 49 cm in height, 20 cm in width, and weighs 6.2 kg.
The natural patina, mineral deposits, and interior oxidation confirm genuine age. Her crown, jewelry, and posture reflect the refined South Indian sculptural tradition associated with temple bronzes of the Tamil region.
This is a striking and spiritually significant artwork, ideal for collectors, altars, or meditation spaces. A true devotional piece with historic value and timeless grace.
