Description

This Himalayan bronze Bodhisattva presents a calm and focused presence, seated in the Namaskara Mudra with both hands folded respectfully at the chest. The sculpture is solid-cast and weighs 3 kg, measuring 34 cm in height and 25.5 cm in width. The proportions and modelling are consistent with 19th-century Himalayan craftsmanship, showing a balance between simplicity in form and careful attention to decorative detail.

The robe is decorated with floral motifs that have been cut by hand, rather than stamped or moulded. These small variations in line and depth indicate the work of an artisan rather than later industrial production. The surface shows natural darkening from age, with areas of deeper oxidation along recesses and edges. Microscopic review confirms the presence of older surface deposits and gradual wear, including softened contours at the fingertips, knees and lower garment folds.

The underside shows a traditional casting approach rather than a modern closed-base structure. The interior retains compacted ritual material, consistent with devotional use. No modern restoration or machine tooling is visible; the surface retains irregularities typical of historical casting and finishing techniques.

The face has a gentle downward gaze, framed by a high crown with stylised vegetal ornaments. Subtle differences in symmetry and hand-finishing marks around the eyes, lips and chin reinforce the impression of a traditionally made sculpture rather than a modern reproduction.

Overall, this is a refined Himalayan bronze with clear age, devotional history, and strong visual presence. It represents the aesthetic seen in regional Buddhist workshops of the 19th century, where solid-cast figures with engraved robe patterns were produced for temple or household use.
