Authentic period piece from the Kathmandu Valley (ca. 1650–1750), preserved with natural patina and intact casting core.
H 49 x W 33 cm, weight: 8.8 kg. Powerful symbol against evil and for success.
Iconography
Depicting Trimukha Gaṇeśa (three-headed Ganesha) seated upon the three-headed elephant Airavata. The deity embodies the tantric powers of knowledge, energy, and prosperity, here united in a single cosmological image. The chest skull-ornament (muṇḍa) identifies the form as Mahārakta Gaṇeśa, the esoteric “Great Red Ganesha” of the Vajrayāna pantheon.
Condition
Excellent structural integrity. Stable patina with partial original gilding intact; natural wear consistent with 17th–18th century bronzes.
Comparative References
Comparable gilded Newar bronzes in Patan Museum (inv. no. PM 1467) and LACMA (M.84.1.5), both dated 17th–18th century, confirm stylistic and technical correspondence.
