Buddha - Authentic Thai Bronze – Rattanakosin Period (ca. 1880–1910)
Description
Authentic Thai Bronze Buddha – Rattanakosin Period (ca. 1880–1910)
This charming devotional bronze statue depicts the Buddha seated in meditation (Dhyana Mudra) with the right hand raised in Abhaya Mudra, symbolizing reassurance and fearlessness. It was crafted in Thailand during the late Rattanakosin period (ca. 1880–1910) using the traditional lost-wax casting method.
Measuring 33 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, and weighing 3.4 kg, the statue has a hollow cast body with a closed base. The surface features natural brown oxidation, corrosion pockets, and white crystalline deposits consistent with long-term ritual use. Hair curls were individually cast and attached — a mark of handcrafted work.
No modern coatings or synthetic gilding are present. UV inspection revealed irregular blue-white fluorescence from aged copper salts and oxidation residues, particularly around the chin, neck, and upper arm. These signs confirm long-term exposure to incense, handling, and altar placement.
