Bronze Miao Ritual Crown – China, 19th Century
Description
This antique bronze ritual crown originates from the Miao communities of Southern China (Guizhou–Guangxi region). The piece is entirely hand-forged in bronze and displays the characteristic tall horn-shaped finials used in ceremonial dress. Several original pendants and bells remain intact, adding movement and sound during ritual dance.
The lower band is decorated with repoussé floral panels, a traditional motif within Miao metalwork. The interior shows irregular hammer patterns and radial shaping consistent with pre-industrial fabrication techniques. Patina, oxidation and surface wear indicate natural age and long-term use in ritual or festive contexts.
An authentic example of Southern China’s ethnic ceremonial culture, suitable for collectors of Asian, tribal and ethnographic bronzes
