This bronze Buddha head depicts the Buddha with a calm and introspective expression, gently closed eyes, elongated earlobes and a dense pattern of spiral hair curls forming a rounded ushnisha. The modelling is balanced and restrained, consistent with traditional Southeast Asian Buddhist sculpture of the 19th century.

The surface shows a naturally developed patina with green and brown oxidation tones embedded in the metal, without indications of modern surface treatment or artificial ageing. Wear is even and consistent with age and historical handling.

The head was originally part of a complete figure or architectural setting and is now mounted on a later support for display purposes only, without alteration to the original bronze. The piece offers a strong sculptural presence and represents an authentic example of antique Southeast Asian Buddhist bronze work.

Description

Estimated value: €1,200 – €1,800

This bronze Buddha head has been valued based on material, sculptural quality, surface condition, patina development, dimensions (H 25 cm × W 9.5 cm) and comparison with similar 19th century Southeast Asian examples. The calm facial expression, elongated earlobes and dense spiral hair curls rising to a rounded ushnisha are consistent with traditional Southeast Asian Buddhist sculpture.

The surface shows a naturally developed patina with green and brown oxidation tones embedded in the metal, without signs of modern chemical treatment or artificial ageing. Wear is consistent with age and handling. The head was originally part of a complete figure or architectural setting; the current mounting is later and purely for display.

Based on these combined factors, the stated value range is considered realistic and defensible within the European private market.
