Description

This Chinese bronze Buddha was created during the late Qing period, a time when traditional casting techniques and symbolic ornamentation were still firmly rooted in classical workshop practice. The figure is seated in meditation, presenting a serene facial expression and carefully proportioned torso.

The robe is decorated with round shou medallions — traditional Chinese longevity symbols associated with blessings, protection and prosperity. These motifs are integrated into the surface rather than later applied, showing consistent wear and aging.

The sculpture was cast using the traditional lost-wax method. The open underside reveals remnants of the original core material, including darkened organic residues typical of historical casting processes. The interior structure confirms hand-cast production rather than modern industrial reproduction.

The surface shows a naturally developed patina with subtle tonal variation. The overall construction, weight and interior evidence support a dating to the late 19th to early 20th century.

A refined and authentic devotional bronze representing classical Chinese Buddhist artistry.
