Antique Wooden Guanyin Buddha Statue China Ritual Figure

This is an old hand-carved wooden Guanyin figure, seated in meditation and holding a small ritual vase at the center of the body. The posture is compact and frontal, with both hands enclosing the vessel in a composed and balanced gesture. The face is softly modeled with lowered eyelids, full cheeks, and a restrained, calm expression typical of Chinese devotional sculpture.

The headdress rises high above the head and shows remnants of layered pigment, including traces of red and dark lacquer tones. The surface across the figure reveals natural wear, abrasion, and age-related darkening. Pigment remains are visible in protected areas, particularly around the crown and facial contours. The robe folds are carved in simple but confident lines, flowing down toward the base.

The rectangular cavity in the back confirms ritual use. This type of opening was traditionally used for consecration contents such as paper scrolls or sacred materials. The interior shows untreated wood and age-consistent oxidation.

The base is heavily worn and eroded, with visible age cracking and surface loss at the lower front and underside. The bottom shows natural degradation of the wood structure consistent with long-term placement and age rather than artificial distressing.
