Antique Tibetan Lama Figure – Bronze Monk with Mudra (18th–19th Century)
Description
This rare seated bronze figure represents a Tibetan lama, likely crafted in the late 18th to early 19th century. Made from solid bronze using traditional techniques, it features remnants of original fire-gilding, confirmed by microscopy and UV analysis.
The monk is shown in lotus posture, with both hands raised to the mouth – possibly depicting mantra recitation or pranayama. The figure’s modest size and hollow underside suggest it was meant for personal devotional use, likely as part of a travel shrine or altar.
Surface patina, granular casting, and the absence of synthetic materials support its authenticity. A rare devotional fragment of Himalayan Buddhist tradition.
