Description

This 19th-century South Indian bronze statue represents Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu deity known for removing obstacles and bringing wisdom, success, and protection.

Crafted between 1850 and 1900, this figure is made from solid bronze and shows natural oxidation—dark brown and greenish hues—along with devotional wear, confirming its authenticity.

Iconography & Pose:

Ganesha is seated in lotus position, a symbol of inner balance and peace. His four arms hold symbolic gestures and objects, such as sweets (modaka), weapons, and protective mudras. This pose blends both welcoming grace and protective strength, indicating his dual role in household or temple rituals.

Use & Symbolism:

This type of Ganesha figure was traditionally used in temple altars or domestic shrines, especially placed near entrances to invoke blessings, clarity, and spiritual protection. The fierce expression on the back adds a layer of spiritual guardianship.
