Description

Antique South Indian Four-Armed Deity Figure (ca. 1800–1850)

This finely cast bronze sculpture represents a South Indian deity, possibly Vishnu or Venkateswara, depicted in a standing posture with four arms, adorned with a tall crown and ritual ornaments. The figure stands firmly on a double lotus base and is executed in a classical South Indian folk-devotional style.

Material: Bronze
Height: 23 cm
Width: 7.3 cm
Weight: 480 g
Origin: South India (Tamil Nadu or Karnataka)
Estimated Date: ca. 1800–1850

The piece has a hollow underside and shows clear signs of natural aging, including deep oxidation, mineral accretions, and patina typical of long-term ritual use. Microscopic analysis confirmed the absence of modern coatings or artificial patina.

Its stylized features, such as elongated limbs and simplified crown design, align it with regional devotional bronzes rather than courtly art. An accessible and authentic example for collectors of Indian ritual art.
