Antique Balinese Pendeta Priest Figure – Ritual Wooden Statue ca. 1880–1930

This unique hand-carved wooden sculpture represents a Pendeta, the ritual priest of Balinese Hinduism. Traditionally, Pendeta figures symbolize wisdom, protection, and spiritual leadership in temple contexts and ceremonial performances.

Carved from tropical hardwood and painted with original mineral-based pigments in red, gold, green, and black, the figure shows natural aging signs such as pigment wear, deep shrinkage cracks, and surface patina. Estimated production period: ca. 1880–1930.

Fully sculpted in the round and standing 52 cm tall, this ceremonial figure functioned as both a devotional and protective statue within Balinese cultural settings. A rare and authentic representation of traditional ritual craftsmanship.
